That would have sucked.

Re: Playing fast and loose with lethal/non-lethal damage

Personally I'd be a little wary of any mechanism which allows Failures to be converted to Successes. Honestly, I think that 13th Age's fail-forward can be applied here, and often I'll do that in my games. Failure is often boring. You try to bash down the door. You fail, so you try again. You try to...

Re: Nile Empire Kickstarter

Heh. Something to remember is that we have all the stretch goals lined up before the KS starts, but yes, there is a reason we don't list _all_ the stretch goals at the start. Allows us to shift them around if we want. A big reason for the end jump is a lot of people click the "Remind me with 4...

Re: Playing fast and loose with lethal/non-lethal damage

New Perk/Prowess/Alpha Level: Good News/Bad News With this Perk a Storm Knight can spend a Possibility to raise the level of any roll by one success. So, a Failure can become a Standard Success, a Standard Success becomes Good and a Good becomes Outstanding. The rub for this is that along with the ...

Re: Playing fast and loose with lethal/non-lethal damage

I'm all for interpreting the rules for the situation. That's really what GMs are best for -- otherwise we'd all be perfectly happy with like, CRPGs and Choose Your Own Adventure books. (Which can be pretty awesome, in both cases, but they can't adapt . At least, not yet.) And I can understand what ...

Re: Playing fast and loose with lethal/non-lethal damage

But if the GM is just looking at the number of wounds as justification, then stop rolling the bonus die. You know the foe's toughness and how many wounds to take them down. I don't know if by RAW you can refuse to do a roll-again. If so, then that makes firing into melee more interesting. Rolled a ...

Re: Playing fast and loose with lethal/non-lethal damage

Hi, I had a question about how others handle doing lethal/non-lethal damage. The rules only allow for non-lethal damage to be done by blunt melee weapons, or by specialized weapons like the taser or pain gauntlet. However, in our game my storyteller often bends those rules during the course of tell...
