Dwarf AP Cost

Postby Stacie.Winters » Sun Jun 19, 2016 3:31 pm

Is it really 61, or is it perhaps 16 and the numbers were transposed?

Just wondering, because 61 points seems really high when compared to the other races.

Technically Dwarf AP costs should be 60 AP not 61.

3 more LP = 18 AP
1 more Spirit = 25 AP
1 more Thoughness = 25 AP
2 less Movement = -8 AP

Makes all together 60 AP.

Wow those AP numbers :o ... I had no idea what the underlying math was like. I kind of wish I knew what the numbers were for race design so I could design my own. :)

Thanks for showing and sharing the info.

They just tried to make a system, where all AP costs are transparent. For instance, if you look at the advantages there is one which raises Toughness or Spirit by one. That advantage costs exactly 25 AP. If you wanna buy an extra LP you have to pay 4 AP for each. There are more playable races coming someday (like Goblins).
If you want to design your own race, just take human as a base, because this race costs 0 AP. Then try to figure out what the AP costs are for specific things (just look at the advantage / disadvantage pages for the AP costs) and apply the costs to your race.
If you make a race that consists only of fat guys for example just give them the coresponding disadvantage and apply the AP of it to the race design.

Is there any actual mechanical benefit to selecting a race, like Dwarf, that you would not get if you just picked human and made the manual raises to Attirbutes yourself?

Many times the human does not qualify for an advantage, see two-voiced singing, or fancy vision. A gm can waive that, but it's against the settings rules.

And of course a dwarf isn't just a small human when it get's into social actions. As long as you play according to the setting.

But there are no strong reglementations for both sides besides the given stats.

I think armor for smaller races (i. e. armor made for dwarfs and goblins) weights only 3/4 at the same costs.

And they cannot jump that high. But those are small issues :)

The remaining point could have to to with the different maximum attribute distribution of dwarf compared to human. That is one thing we can't really recreate through advantages and disadvantages.
