Currency Question

Postby arkobla conn » Mon Apr 09, 2018 1:56 pm

In the White Lake, (and the Thorwal Drum), I have seen reference to being paid in Batz, and another reference to something costing a farthing, but I can't find these denominations in the rulebook or almanac. (The almanac references 3 Bornland currencies (including Penny) but not the ones I mention.

Any insights on this would be appreciated!

Thanks

Which one does the Almanac reference?
Because that sounds like a translation issue.

It could be a Batzen from Bornland. It's equal to 1 Ducate.
Please excuse my bad English, I'm a beginner.

I will need to go back to the Almanac and look. I don't have it with me at the moment. I agree, it probably is a translation issue, but I can't tell if it is the module (probably) or the almanac that is in error. Batzen are definitely NOT a bornland currency in my almanac.

I noticed the same awhile ago, but we dont do anything with currency in the game. Its all hand waved in favour of narrative flavour. To much like real life to count pennies.

The shortlived TDE4 translation put it like this for the Bornland:
"In Fountland one pays with the lump (1 ducat), the penny
(1 thaler) and the slighting (1 farthing)."
and for the middenrealm
"One ducat is 10 silver thalers (of 5 scruples of
silver), which corresponds to 10 bronze farthings (of 5 scruples),
which again equals 10 iron kreutzers (of 5 scruples)."

maybe they mixed it up with the old translation?

It would be nice if you could still look up the currencies in the Almanach and the Adventure, so we can compare them.
