Active defence

Postby ihilate » Sat Jan 13, 2018 9:21 am

Please could somebody explain what "rolling a bonus" means for active defence? Does it just mean rolling an additional d20 and adding it to your die total? Does it mean rolling a d20 on the bonus chart and adding the indicated bonus to your action total (with a minimum of +1)? Or does it mean something else entirely?

Thanks!

This.

"Roll a bonus" is roll d20 and consult the chart - the result is the bonus, which you add to whatever the relevant total is.
The name that can be named is not the true name.

Page 119 is pretty clear, but to break it down further:

If you have not used your action, you may roll a d20 and generate a bonus number. If the bonus is lower than +1, you make it a +1. This Bonus is then applied to ALL you defenses for the entire round. So it applies to your Dodge, Melee, and Unarmed physical defenses. It applies to your Trick, Taunt, Intimidate, and Maneuver interactive defenses. It also applies to any other skill you might use to defend that round (such as Willpower against a magical/psionic attack). It would also apply to any Attribute you used to defend.

So if you roll an active defense bonus of +2 and one guy taunts you and another guy shoots you, both your Taunt and Dodge defenses are at +2

Also note that it is 'rolling a bonus' not making a 'dodge total' or what have you.

So if your taunt skill is Favored, you don't have the option to re-roll the first roll you make when defending against a Taunt.

Great point. That would be weird with the Indomitable perk which makes Active Defense rolls favored also. It would make that perk redundant.

Thanks, There was something in the back of my mind nagging me that active defense wasn't a skill total, but i couldn't place it. Now it clicks!
