Clearance Level and XPs

Postby JohnK » Fri Jul 21, 2017 6:36 pm

Hullo, folks,

I don't know if this question has been asked, but thought I'd bring it up.

On page 71 of the Beta book, under Clearance Level, the text reads,

A group is cleared to “Beta“ once they accumulate 50 Experience Points (whether each member has spent all 50 XP or not).

Clarification: Does this mean, given the section in brackets, that each member of the group needs to have spent 50 XP or that the group itself has accumulated 50 Experience Points?

Thanks, in advance. :)

Accumulates. It does not matter if you have spent it. Having gained the experience, you are now Beta Clearance.

I am taking it to mean that they all have to have accumulated 50 XP each, but not every member has to have spent all 50. That way they don't get screwed because most of them have spent all 50 but one guy has spent 40 and is saving up to be able to bring up something expensive like an attribute.

That's what I thought it meant, but the use of the words "whether each member has spent..." is what threw me here. That seems to imply that each member has 50 XPs, whether they've spent them or not, and not the group as a whole.

That's not what I would take it to mean, to be honest. The key here is if that's the case, and you have a group of 5 players, frex, in order for each player character to have accumulated 50 XP, that means the group has to have received (at least) 250 XP. I don't think that's the case, but I'll wait for the official word comes down on this element.

So, to clarify, this means that the group has to have accumulated 50 XPs, not the individual player characters. So the second part of the sentence would be in error, since it would imply that one player snagged up all 50 XPs for the character? In that case, the phrasing of the second half of the sentence should be clarified or corrected somewhat.

Apparently characters don't have individual XP.

It's all group XP.

What happens when another character joins an existing group? Nobody knows.

The pdf seems to know.

page 71
After each act, the group typically earns five
“Experience Points,“ or XP. These can be saved or
spent between acts to increase attributes and skills,
or purchase new Perks, as shown below.
Note that XP are accumulated as a group, not by
individuals. Everyone in the player character team
always has the same XP as everyone else.

New Storm Knights
When new Storm Knights join the team, perhaps
because a previous hero fell in battle, they have the
same XP as the rest of the group.
Create the character just like she was starting from
scratch, then advance her by spending XP normally.
"That old chestnut?"
