Cyberpapacy cyberware implants VS Tharkhold occultech implants

Postby Alukar » Sat Jul 22, 2017 10:23 pm

Is it just me or the Tharkold occultech implants at tech axiom 25 seems stronger than Cyberpapacy cyberware implants at tech axiom 26?

Just a cleab exemple :
HardPlas Arm (cyberpapacy) :+1 Strength with that arm. VS Digan CyberArm (Tharkold): +2 Strength with that arm

Any reason to this?

Am i missing something?

Occultech can currently only be taken via the Occultech Implants Perk, which requires Strength 10+.

It's big, clunky, and painful to use.

The Digan is also more expensive. Same with the similarly-comparable Zan Endoskeleton (Occulteck, +4 armor) vs Trigon Body Plating (Cybertech, +2 Armor).

Cybertech is sleeker, more fashionable, and in many cases more subtle. Note that the Trigon Integrated Weapon Mount is concealed, while the Thav Integrated Weapon Mount, as we're discussing in that thread... isn't. Tharkold is all about brute force. So it makes sense that they'd have the heavy-duty, higher-strength-bonus arm. CP is higher tech - but punching things is what Tharkoldu do.

This would be the Occultech version of a cybernetic eye:

Thanks for the answers so far. :)
I understand that cyberware is a lot more subtle and Occultech is big and clunky.

Guess we will see a lot more in the cosm book and that would be explained better.

If it is a Cosm style and balance thing, i am more than ok with it. Was just wondering why higher tech axiom had "weaker" implants.

Does that mean the cyberpapacy COULD make more big/clunky/powerful stuff but will not? ;)

Dean could provide an official answer.

My take on this is that the function is still the same, but the more advanced models can be compact due to improvements in technology.

One example is the mobile phone. In the '80s, you had these big clunky things. At the turn of the century, the mobile phones were smaller but functionally still the same. Of course, now smart phones blow everything out of the water, but there's a marked difference in how phones looked between '80s and '00s while still acting the same.

I think the obvious/clunkiness has less to do with the Tech Axiom and more to do with the reality it's from. The Cyberpapacy is a slick cyberpunk/religious dystopian society and part of the cyberpunk genre is style over substance. Tharkhold is more Max Max with elements of techno-horror and demons.

The differences are more than just Tech Axiom, it's an aesthetic of the pulp genre the cosm represents.
