Unarmed Damage Stacking

Postby agarrett » Thu Mar 28, 2019 9:37 pm

One of my players has decided to make an unarmed combat specialist, and depending on how some perks stack, it varies from good to incredible. So, just want to check some questions here.

The character (after an adventure): A dwarf from Aysle, with Dwarven armor and the Dragon Claw and Giant Strength enhancements. He also has the Brawler perk and Spiked Plates (we know the armor doesn't stack, but that also has a damage bonus.) He starts with a base 11 strength.

Giant Strength: We both agree this stacks with pretty much everything, giving him a base of 13 for calculating damage as long as he has his armor on.
Spiked Plates: It looks to me like this only adds +2 to damage when grappling. A standard unarmed attack will not get this bonus. The short description makes it sounds like it adds to all unarmed damage.
Brawler: This perk adds +2 to unarmed damage when attacking bare handed. I claim that the dragon claw is not bare handed, and so these will not stack.
Dragon Claw: This is +3 damage AP2, and uses unarmed to attack. The question is what stacks with it.

So, by my calculations, his punch with Dragon claw is damage 16 AP2, which is still quite good. However, if Brawler and Spiked Plates stack with it, as he thinks, it's damage 20 AP2. In my version, he has 15 damage when punching with the non-dragon claw hand, and damage 13 when grappling. Any one care to chime in?

Thanks.

An Edeinos with 13 Str who starts with the death claw and whip tail who switches to the Nile Empire and takes the brawler and super strength perks (with a limitation or an extra perk) would have a favored unarmed damage of 20 with AP 2. All of which do stack.

I think Brawler counts. I know it talks about `bare hands', but it also says specifically that it "stacks with any other unarmed combat bonuses such as an edeinos's claw attack", and Dragon Claws are an unarmed combat attack very much like that.

The Spiked Plates I not only agree with you on - I know it says "bonus adds to unarmed damage" on the table, but that's shorthand. The description is very clear that it adds to Unarmed tests when grappling (or resisting a grapple, which is actually a little confusing because I don't think you can do damage through your `resisting a grapple' roll so that implies that it's supposed to add to your Strength or Unarmed Combat when grappling, not your damage). But anyway, it's definitely grappling specific.

But more than that... I don't honestly think you can have Spiked Plates and Dragon Armor. That's two suits of heavy armor. I'm just not seeing it. I could see working out a custom Perk to enhance his Dragon Armor with something similar - maybe model it off the Ion Gusoku's Lightning Sheath or something.

So I believe he gets 18 AP 2, or 13 when out of his armor.

He would be 18 AP2

Starting Str of 11
Plus 2 for giant Str
Plus 2 for brawler
Plus 3 AP2 for Dragon Claws.

We have also have a dwarf who is doing the same thing but started with a 14 str. He is now 21 AP 2 Basic punch. Super scary
