Are there people who pronounce it differently?

I am aware of at least one person who pronounced it "eye sleigh"

I mean, I can see "Aysel", but "eye sleigh" just sounds wrong.

Aysel, rhymes with hazel?

Where do they stand on Die Hard is a Christmas movie? :) There are certain things that some people are just wrong about and I definitely think "eye sleigh" is one of them.

It's not how I pronounce it, but it is phonetically reasonable.

I find that when I pronounce a foreign word like Spanish or Japanese, it's pretty close to being right. Not in this case obviously. But I can see how one could come up with "eye sleigh."

But then people in Cairo would look at me funny for calling it the knee-lay em-pee-ray. Now it just sounds like Pig Latin.

Sort of. But I was thinking more along the lines of how "hassle" or "measles" are pronounced.

Here's how I do:

• Aysle: sounds just like "aisle"
• Uthorion: you-THOR-ee-on (I used to pronounce it "youth-orion" back in the days of oTorg, not sure why I was so far off)
• edeinos: eh-DAY-nos (last "s" is hard, not nasal)
• Baruk Kaah: BAR-uck KA
• Drakacanus: DRACK-uh-KAN-us
• Kanawa: Ka-NA-wa (Japanese style but, yeah, I can't help but stress that middle syllable... so maybe more a Hawaiian pronunciation)
• Malraux: mal-ROE
• Heketon: HECK-uh-tawn
• Daikoku: die-KO-koo

I pronounce Aysle like "Isle" as though I were an individual with an extremely thick Scottish accent working hard to suppress it but just a little makes its way through.
