Html table support

Postby MadBeard » Mon Feb 27, 2017 6:53 am

I asked this in another post, but I'll post here also for organization sake :)

I tried to post table as html code but forum didn't show it right. Forum displayed html code as ordinary text. Any ideas why is that? Does forum even support that?

I think you'll have to use BBCode in the forum, either generated by the post editor or by typing it yourself. Unfortunately, I don't think it supports tables.

Social sites like forums or Reddit but also Facebook and the like usually don't allow raw HTML because the risk of abuse is too high.

It also appears that BBCode table tags don't work in these forums, just in case you wanted to try those.

If tables are something you'd like to be able to do, I can look into options.

Thanks Thrar and Eric.
I ment BBCode and html but I didn't see that I omitted BBCode from question

@Eric
It's not a big deal but if there is a way to add this BBCode tag without too much work, it would be great.

Okay, I have added the following tags for use in the forums:
    -table-
    -tr-
    -th-
    -td-

(but use brackets instead of hyphens, like other bbcode)

I have not made them look pretty at all, so if you want me to adjust the HTML replacement for any of them to create a standard table look, just let me know. Here's a sample of the barebones version:

Test Header 1 Test Header 2
data 1 data 2
data 3 data 4

Thanks Eric. Could you please also add borders?
And here is nice BBCode table generator to save time :)

Hmm. I poked at syntax for a bit and just can't get it figured out. If you can tell me what the HTML replacement should look like, I will set it up.

I think it should be like this:

Code: Select all

[table border="2"]
-where 2 is border width in pixels.

or

[table style="border: 2px solid black;"]
as inline CSS

Okay, the second one works. (I had tried the first version already with no luck.)

Do you want borders around each cell? As an example I have put borders around the header cells (see my test above). I can also make the data cell borders thinner to distinguish them if you like.

Borders around cells would be nice. And thinner one would be great :)
Thanks Eric.

Now that we have tables we could organize forum association game based on TDE lore :geek:
I'll think of something and than I'll create a thread ;)
