Puns to make your players hate you

Postby Kuildeous » Fri Apr 20, 2018 12:49 am

So my group went to deal with the guardians of a gospog field. I described the redcap and the giant and the dozens of gospog all rising from the ground to meet them. Then I described a flying humanoid creature with a beak-like nose that looked similar to something dimthreaded that they faced in France.

Player: Oh, no. Ravagon.
Me: No, not Ravagon.
Players: *look expectantly*
Me: Ra-va-here!

And then flipped over the Drama card.

Oh that's good, using that for sure.

I have no children, so my gaming group gets the brunt of my dad jokes. Pretty sure if I spawned, my child would be in prison by now for patricide.

And if it happened on March 17th they'd instead be charged with St. Patricide...

Consider this a warning on all pun themed posts: I have successfully caused traumatic amnesia with gaming puns.

That said, here are a few NPCs you may throw at your players:

Justin Thyme, the medic who has a knack for showing up exactly when he's needed
Arthur Hillary, a Wizard of some power who specializes in area of effect spells--his friends call him Art
Cody Pendant, a basicly useless bystander the knights have to keep alive so he can do one thing
Anastasia Aulojest, she's a nurse who's excellent at treating insomnia
Mary Anderson, a Christian theologian and missionary
Hellena Hanbaskt, if you are going to her place you better be prepared

That should be enough pun_ishment for now.

There are a few other people you can add:

Michael Ruffone, a sound engineer who often goes by Mike
Benjamin Dover, a world famous gymnast from youth, who at the time was called Ben
Benjamin Dunn, a copycat artist

But for that other roleplaying game, I have the Aster family. Just before their reunion, a green dragon destroyed their hometown, so they ended up scattered. This explains why there are never two of them in the same place at the same time, although others may end up meeting more than one. The current members are:

Daqeim Aster: The patriarch of the family, Daqeim is a bard who is never out of tune.
Adyss Aster: His wife, a storm sorceress whose maiden name was Grace
Spime Aster: An undercover agent, oldest of their children
Sateep Aster: An urban cleric
Contreep Aster: His twin brother, works with rural folk
Kilph Aster: A barbarian who likes to pop the heads off kobolds

I will admit that in my old campaign I had a Nile Empire Mystery Woman named Miss Adventure.

I think she had luck powers …

I can't remember if I ever used him, but a long time ago, I had a con artist PC/NPC for my WEG Star Wars game named Bilk N. Fleesum. "No, really, we are starting the ocean reclamation project on Tatooine next week..."

Tonight, my group chartered a plane from Cairo to Ethiopia. Someone was holding onto the Romance card and was contemplating using it. This led to various jokes about carnal activities on the plane. I said that they could join the Nile-High Club.

Now I need a new group to play with.
