I agree. When TE originally came out it was pitched to me as the cyberpunk/intriguey reality. I know it isn't that now, but I have an extremely hard time summarizing what flavor PP should have.

No.....it still is a *punk/intriguey reality...just more of a combo of cyberpunk (but not TOO cyber)...and biopunk.

So, the idea that PP is cyberpunk/biopunk his what worries me, because it has the challenge that PP has no cyberware. So, we're not talking Neuromancer. It's more like Snow Crash (Neil Stephenson)

So, if you think about the kind of tech that might be available in PP, it would include things like:

Smartwheels (wheels with telescoping pins that remove terrain penalties)
mini-railguns (like, a rail gun gatling cannon that fires depleted uranium flechettes with micro-dose neurotoxins)
Pretty good armor
robots and drone swarms... think stuff like next generation Boston Dynamics robots, and swarms of mini-drones
slaughterbot swarms: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ecClODh4zYk
Although you won't have cyberware, let alone elegant cyberware, you COULD have exoskeleton suits for strength augmentation and mounting mobile semi-heavy weaponry (full power armor is probably tech 25 or higher)... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWnXOh4r6Dw
Genetic engineering (biopunk) is probably harder to anticipate, because one of the primary limitations today is not actually the technology but the ethics of experimentation on human subjects and higher order animals. One could imagine that tech 24, without such restrictions, could yield coarse level augmentations (crossovers, fixing imperfections, disease resistance, generally "better/faster/smarter/stronger" troops) but would not yield custom-designed or superhuman augmentation.

I suspect biopunk will look more like Nina Tucker from FMA than SPANC.

I just think its corny in ways that don't quite jive with contemporary imagery or design. If it was a bit more "designed by Shirow" and less "1980's Oriental Adventures with lasers" I'd like it a lot more. I don't need it to be straight up mecha or even powered armor to sell me on it better, just, I dunno - cooler. Are there variants out there? How about Korean or Chinese twists on the design? I tend to think of that whole look as ceremonial rather than cinematic samurai, anyway - the classic master swordsman in Chanbara flicks gets around just fine for his sword-work without a lot of wicker most of the time.

Ion Gusoku is itself a “variant”. Read the description of the Perk again.

“The first suits were adapted from the armor worn by Kanawa’s elite security forces, but many adaptations and improvements were added as the samurai reverse-engineered Kanawa’s technology. The armor itself is highly advanced and built specifically for the samurai intended to wear it.”

I figure the suit is going to always be a full body, high tech suit, but from there you can do whatever you want. It can look like a sci-fi version of this...

Or this...

Or even this I guess.

Since the armor is “built specifically for the samurai intended to wear it” and has “many adaptations and improvements”, it makes sense that it would take a form that best fits the Electric Samurai who wears it. I even had the idea of an Otaku who is a massive Star Wars fan, and wears a suit inspired by Darth Vader.

(Darth Vader suit is said to be inspired from samurai armor, and both traditional musha-doll manufacturer Yoshitoku and action figure maker BANDAI SPIRITS have their SAMURAI Darth Vader dolls.)

Very similar. Actually those gave me the idea in the first place. But not quite on-the-nose, I was thinking of this:

Nice armor!

Yeah, I think I'm just getting hung up on aesthetics/style stuff that's easy enough to change up in my own game.
