Re: Thoughts on wizards and spellcasting

Interesting discussion and leads into something I've been working on for sometime... a translation of the oTorg magic system to TE that would complement the TE magic system. It uses a perk to create a new High Magic ability that requires a grimoire that must be used during casting. I'm currently rew...

Re: Small Groups and Possibilities

Ran a 3 person party through the Day One LL adventure. The players used all of their Cosm cards and possibilities by the end of each Act, but felt right overall. This was with a party with one experienced player and 2 players who had never played an RPG before. The experienced player seemed to balan...

Re: Can't use Possibility to cancel Mishap?

Everyone should of course run the game in whatever way works best for their group... but I've found some of the best stories to come out of failures. Some of the best games I've played in and GMed included critical failure rules that resulted in some spectacular failures, which then required spectac...

Re: Alternative Failure Modes for Spells, Miracles, Psionics

Yes! Thanks for posting this. Adds just a little something extra to each "spell caster" flavor. I will probably use it as is in my game.

Re: Archetypes MIA

I'm actually curious about this... My Torg group has been playing Torg off and on since '93, and I don't think we ever used the templates/archetypes that were provided for oTorg. Did a lot of people use them? I'm asking because I've seen numerous questions and requests about them for TorgE. As discu...

Re: Spell and Miracle perks underwhelming?

Actually I was referring to casting on the fly of unlearned grimoire spells or commonly known spells. In the Aysle book a spellcaster could cast such spells simply by increasing backlash and difficulty by 4... at least thats what I remember. The invitation to madness was spell creation on the fly w...

Re: Spell and Miracle perks underwhelming?

Wasn't it under the heading Invitation To Madness? At least in the R&E. Aysle came first. And the Invitation to Madness is a subspecies of casting on the fly. You got +3 to each of the five subrolls to design the spell, and +3 to the actual casting total, but once you started the process, you w...

Re: Spell and Miracle perks underwhelming?

I'm asking because the general sentiment I'm getting is that the situation in Eternity is more desperate, and as such, there is less "tolerance" for putting in things that are likely to be a waste of space. If a villain needs a spell (like dark persuasion or possession ), they can just be...

Re: Spell and Miracle perks underwhelming?

Maybe it would be a good idea to have some sort of system to cast "on the fly" so to speak, thus allowing that greater range of spells (and giving you those things like Speak With Avian on the rare occasions they are necessary). I vaguely remember that being an option in oTorg, though I c...

Re: Spell and Miracle perks underwhelming?

As a general rule, how many people are likely to take spells like speak with avian or multiply fish ? Ha! I didn't say it was the best solution, but I already have people asking me about character advancement and spell use in particular(and miracles to a lesser degree). So I'm going to want to put ...
