Card play on an action is simultaneous. Normally this doesn't matter. In this case it does. The Malestrom card would prevent the expenditure of the Possibilities, including Hero and Drama cards.

*grits teeth*

That's actually pretty brilliant.

Re: Maelstrom

I think it is pretty tough to try to encapsulate "in almost all cases" for something like this. I mean... I'd agree that "in almost all cases" is a bold statement in, well, almost all cases, but in this one... Maelstrom doesn't do anything against non-Possibility-Rated enemies, ...

Re: Maelstrom

But in almost all cases where this is a thing, we're talking about major opponents, right? So they're probably reasonably tough and can certainly take more than one Wound, and it's unlikely that you'll have 3+ Wounds guaranteed before your damage roll. Like, really super unlikely. So that means eith...

Re: Disconnecting while rolling for defeat

Well... you will pretty much always have two points of Wound Penalties when rolling for Defeat, so that means there are two numbers on the die by which you would have failed and died but that the Lifelock would make you succeed - and probably two more that it will give you a Good Success instead of ...

Re: Maelstrom

Well, it's the reason Deanna stated -- because if you can play it after you know you've hit them for enough Wounds, it takes away the thing that makes Possibility-rated enemies scary. And I haven't seen it come up in play yet, which does leave me wondering, like Gargoyle, if it's really a big proble...

Re: Maelstrom

That makes sense, but I'm not sure it actually fits RAW. Soaking is a free action, but it happens after damage is rolled, so as long as Maelstrom is played before rolling damage it seems like it would happen before they can declare Soaking. Of course, even after getting an Outstanding Attack, you're...

Re: Maelstrom

Players have control over when cards get played, so... I can't see any reason why it doesn't work. Maelstrom is highly situational, though - it can be very hard to use in a way that doesn't harm the party more than the bad guys, especially since PCs are 100% Possibility Rated. So the fact that it's ...

Re: Adjusted DN vs Difficulty Modifiers

I think the other element (which is totally encapsulated in what's already been said, but I didn't see explicitly) is precedence. Having your players roll DN 10 with a -2 rain penalty tells them that hopping down a 6' ledge is going to be 10 in the future, where if you just give them the 12 that's u...

Re: Magical Principles

I think it's actually because on the State Path chart in the old Torg book, Death and Time are opposite each other in a way that doesn't really have a place to interact. Life and Death feed into Light and Darkness, then on to Living Forces and the assorted Kindred, while True Knowledge and Time flow...

Re: Can Maelstrom Bridges survive without Stelae?

Of course, the only good High Lord is Cyberpope Jean Malreaux! And why would anyone want to destroy his Maelstrom Bridges, anyway? They're so beautiful!
