Re: Nile Empire Traps

Before the cosm books were released, I had a little fun with using the special skills without spells. I had a DSR where Divination was required to finish a step. If there wasn't someone with that skill, I'd have defaulted to something else, but I knew I had a spellcaster, so I tweaked the DSR to gi...

Re: Old School Perspective

The only thing I would add would be to let your players know ASAP about rules changes or rulings you're making. Players make their characters based on the rules in the book and (reasonably) expect to be able to do the thing the rules say they can do. If that's not how things work in your game then ...

Re: Restrained & Active Defense

If I’m restraining someone, I’m not letting them even talk to Taunt or Trick. And if they try to use Psionics, I’m twisting their arm to break their concentration. I don’t know that creating exceptions even makes logical sense, let alone complicating things. That might be right for a very proficien...

Re: Restrained & Active Defense

If a character is restrained (from a grapple or other effect) on their turn they "must only attempt to break free". The question then becomes can they still perform an Active Defense in response to an enemies attack? If done in response it wouldn't be "on their turn" and what wo...

Re: Dispel Magic

Thank you both :) I thought this one was borderline because arguably the Tharkoldu was activating an item like power. The restrained condition seems to me one of the more powerful in the GM's arsenal, and the Tharkoldu's ability to attack one character while restraining another makes them even more ...

Re: Nile Empire Traps

Ah, it's a perk to take your cantrips with you as an Ayslish mage. That makes sense - it would have been a significant unfair advantage just for being Ayslish otherwise.

Re: Nile Empire Traps

The goal has always been to have magic skills have non-spell related uses. Aysle has cantrips (minor spells that can be cast with proper skill that you don't need to learn but are so minor you only get Standard success on them) and uses divination for quick and dirty magic identification (but if yo...

Re: Nile Empire Traps

Yeah, it didn't appreciate this was a significant change in the way traps played when a first read the draft sourcebook, but I agree it is a significant advance in the gameplay :) The answer to this seems pretty obvious, but is it correct that divination and alteration may be used in relation to tra...

Re: Hot Targets for High Lords

Tharkold to the east and the Cyberpope to the west, not mention Aysle in the north and the Nile across the main oil supply (and Tharkold controlling Russia's gas supply) must be giving Germany nightmares, not that they need the Gaunt Man as well. They'll need to lift their moratorium on nuclear ener...

Re: Hot Targets for High Lords

Sure, but let's say you're Uthorion looking to expand your territory. You could either put fight Malraux for some territory in France, or you could drop them on "virgin" territory in Germany or Poland. The latter is probably going to get you more juice for less effort. Then again, Uthorio...
