Re: Preview #10 - Combat Basics

If we're talking about Old TORG your best bet to actually kill a Darkness Device would be to attack it mentally or spiritually. Get a bunch of Tharkoldu with high damage Pain weapons to attack one in concert. Since Toughness covers all types of damage now that won't work anymore.

Re: I Remember

Incidentally, transformed humans in the Living Land won't be Neanderthals or dumb. :-) There's an excellent Warren Ellis graphic novel called Crécy which recounted the Battle of Crécy from the viewpoint of a foul-mouthed English archer. He narrates the battle directly to the reader though he occasi...

Re: Preview #9 - The Drama, Destiny, and Cosm Decks

Yup. But even if you use Possibilities or Destiny cards, you're still spending resources on that check. And then there's the Mishap. Other than a Second Chance card, you're pretty much hooped at that point. Even getting a single point of Charisma back will cost you over the equivalent of 2 Perks, s...

Re: Preview #9 - The Drama, Destiny, and Cosm Decks

I love them all, except one I don't know yet how extreme corruption will be but this seems to be a small price for a +3 on a skill for the rest of the Scene. Especially if you use it on research You make a Spirit test. If you fail, you lose one Charisma permanently. Drop below 5, and your soul belo...

Re: Preview #8 - Pan-Pacifica and Orrorsh

A slight tangent but I remember this statement from a review on Something Awful: It's also worth mentioning that Tokyo is one of the scariest-sounding cities in the world. It's like a traffic jam at a pinball arcade wedged inside a dinosaur's asshole. There are T-rex roars, beeps, honks, mechanical ...

Re: Preview #9 - The Drama, Destiny, and Cosm Decks

One thing this reminds me of is how TORG's cardplay tended to enable cinematic combat. In games I've played when the good guys and bad guys fought, the losers got "nickled and dimed" to death with little blows adding up damage. In TORG there was a lot of manuevering, taunting and bits of s...

Re: Preview #8 - Pan-Pacifica and Orrorsh

Figure for any realm, if there's something you don't like, don't use it. Or alter it into something you can use. So, for "zombies" don't think of them as zombies. It's a useful shorthand, but it brings up stuff that's not really congruent with Pan-Pacifica. Zombies are dead. Pan-Pacifica i...

Re: Preview #9 - The Drama, Destiny, and Cosm Decks

I feel like I had three things that were going to go here, but by the time I got through the rest of the thread, I can only remember two. 1) I am now sad that I cannot Campaign the Martyr subplot. That was fun, and I was hoping to manage it again. It lucked out given the character I'd made that it ...

Re: Preview #8 - Pan-Pacifica and Orrorsh

I guess it's less like a cyberpunk-lite setting and more like what we see in fictions like resident Evil with Umbrella Corp. Anyway I guess that you can decide to downplay the "infection" if you want too but it could be an interesting way of breaking the influence of Kanawa in the pacific...
