Re: Preview #1 - Updating a Classic

No, the Glory result is on a roll of 60+, not the DN+60.

The DN+5 is a Good success.

Re: Preview #1 - Updating a Classic

Here's hoping this is received well. I see this as a new fix to the old problem of GJN, which has been mentioned. It also seems to slightly tie in damage/effect dice to a small degree, though it's possible that they won't be used, as on a standard success. What I see as being a large positive of th...

Re: Preview #1 - Updating a Classic

[One of my partners in crime reminded me that there is in fact, a better result than Outstanding. It's called a Glory. What that gets you we'll be discussing later. Skipping over what it gets us, which will be discussed later, is it still achieved in the same way, with the same restrictions? ...

Re: A General Comment on Alternative Designs

I'm wondering if reversing the order in which you check the bonus chart might help? These are my thoughts on it. ... Thoughts, anyone? Finding out the DN through trial and error isn't a bad thing, as it's simulating what we do in real life. Through experience we'd learn how difficult this particula...

Re: Preview #1 - Updating a Classic

It's true that you don't need to calculate the exact number to know which Success band you fall into for *that* roll, but you will want to know the exact number so that when you make your next attack you can better target the band you want to fall into. Because the GM is gonna tell you to use 0d6, ...

Re: A General Comment on Alternative Designs

Actually I am on the design team. :-) But yes, I don't mind occasionally mentioning "we tried that, didn't work" when that's the case, or I might make a quick comment about why a certain path wasn't taken. I just don't want to get into a long discussion about why Z didn't work is all. :-) ...

A General Comment on Alternative Designs

Just a general comment about questions like, "Instead of X, why didn't you do Z?" I may not directly comment on those types of questions, unless they're pertinent to the actual design that we did. The general answer usually is going to be, "Because we decided to do it a different way&...

Re: Preview #1 - Updating a Classic

Winston, if i'm understanding correctly, the d20 does explode as well so it sounds to me like the following: 1) roll 1d20 (explodes on 10's and 20's) + modifiers. - Did total DN (See #2), DN + 5 (See #3), or DN + 10 (See #4)? 2) do effect of 'X'. 3) you did something closer to an action hero, do ef...

Re: Preview #1 - Updating a Classic

I'm still mystified as to the purpose of the d6s for the Success Levels. The roll that was generated to determine the Success Level is a randomly generated number made with an exploding die. You need to calculate that number anyway, because you need to know the Success Level. Once that calculation ...

Bonus Die Shorthand (dE)

I'm going to recommend that we use 'dE' to refer to the bonus die in shorthand on the forums, rather than a d6. I think that will cut down on any confusion on the forums. E can mean Eternity, or Exploding. :-) We actually have a symbol for it in the books, but that doesn't translate well to the foru...
