Question About Jumping

Postby RevenantBob » Fri Aug 17, 2018 1:00 pm

Question about jumping. What unit of measurement is this in?

Jumping
Unlike movement, jumping is determined by
a character’s Strength, not Speed (or Agility if
they have a specific talent). A character can jump
three times their relevant statistic across or high.

A treacherous jump—or one covering a greater
distance than that which a character can clear
automatically—requires an Athletics skill test. If
a character jumps onto difficult terrain, they must
take an Athletics (Agility) skill test to successfully
make the landing or else end up prone.

It just says three times their relative statistics, but not what the final value is in terms of a distance. Feet? Inches? Meters? Yards? If it's meters, someone jumping 12 meters is uncanny!

Good question. I'm digging into it and will get back to you when I have an answer. My gut says Meters, but I see where the math is leading this question. Give me a day to talk to the others and get an answer for you.

All measurements appear to use the metric system. I'd say jump your stat in meters.

Perhaps this unintentionally reveals that the average worlds where we adventure have lower-than-Earth gravity? :D

(By the way, the long-jump distance does not phase me, it's the vertical jump distance!! 12m straight up?!)

Just scratch the "three times" part and say "half of this amount" high.

A average human has 3 str, which would result in 9m across or high.
Thats world-record niveau!
Slightly above average human with 4 str would jump 12m across or high.
(That nearly the height of a warhound titan btw)

If you just take the statistic it sounds way more accurate.
Average human jumps 3m across and 1.5m high.

I like this math much better.

This is basically the solution for now until they look into it deeper and should be mentioned in the upcoming FAQ

Didn't see this make it into the FAQ. Did I overlook it?

We dont have a FAQ (yet).
You red the errata, which was mostly just for spelling mistakes and grammatic mistakes.

Seems to me like they wrote this thinking in terms of Feet, and forgot to change the numbers.
