Duplicatus

Postby Morgoth » Sat Aug 03, 2019 10:59 am

Ok, regarding the Duplicatus spell, how does it work in combat? Suppose a caster conjurs 4 duplicates how would that affect the casters chance to be hit in melee combat, ranged combat and with spells? How do you calculate it?

Was there ever any official errata or ruling on this, either in German or English?

There's a “Hit Chance” table in the English rules wiki entry.
For 4 duplicates it's 20% hit chance (or 1-4 on a D20).

Oh thanks for that, never knew about that table. Why didn't they have it in the core book?

Is there anything else like that explained in the wiki that's not in the core?

In other words with 4 duplicates you have the equivalent of an effective Dodge of 16 which will not get reduced for successive hits ;-)

I just checked both my German and English Core Rules and the table is in both of them.

Most of the time it's the other way around—stuff in the books that's missing in the rules wiki.

No, it's even better because after your 20% chance of getting hit, you can still parry or dodge.

That’s true, the “Dodge 16” is what you have even if you were otherwise unable to parry/dodge (Onslaught, attack of opportunity)
If you do have a parry of 10 (already not too bad) 4 duplicates would effectively give you the equivalent of 18 or less on d20 to defend.
And 3 duplicates (QL 4, possible at start of game) is almost as good, 87.5% instead of 90% in the example above.

Wow, I can't believe I forgot about it, its been a long while since I read that table. And before asking this I had just checked the spell entry in my book and somehow I completely missed seeing it!
