Tier Calculation beyond Tier 5

Postby Wolfman1024 » Sun Feb 17, 2019 6:52 pm

Hi,

New to the system and new to the site.

After reading through the Core Rulebook, I have noticed for the most part the Tier stops at 5. However, the Bestiary has Elites that are labelled at "Tier 5+". I have seen the "Escalation table" on p.57, which by my understanding is the escalation beyond Tier 5? Is that correct? In all honesty, I'm assuming that the their escalation follows the pattern (Tier 4 is +7, Tier 5 is +8, Tier 6 would be +9, etc)?

Additionally, how is this calculated in terms of party size? E.g. a party of 4 Tier 4 PCs is roughly equal to a Tier 4 challenge?

Page 82 gives mention of Beyond Tier 5 play:

"Other Tiers

The Game Master may choose to run a
campaign that uses a different Tier than the
ones presented here. Adventures focused on
juve gangers might have less than 100 starting
build points, effectively acting as Tier 0. At the
other extreme, a campaign that focused on a
team of Space Marine Chapter Masters leading
a Crusade alongside a Primarch could require
600 or more starting points for a Tier 6+.
These Tiers are entirely at the Game Master’s
discretion. They are best considered when
developing a unique Framework that requires
such extremes."

You'd also want to use the Quick NPC table...which can EASILY be scaled as well. So, basically, move the Escalation Tiers up one, move the Bestiary Quick NPCs up one.

And then make sure weapons can still damage the enemies and PCs. :)

Awesome, thanks for pointing this out! I did only do a "thorough skim" of this initially, rather than actually reading and takin notes haha.

I take it then, that this isn't really "aimed" at any particular party size? More so just "aim for an appropriate challenge"?

I don't understand your question really, the book also mentions approximately intended party size as well elsewhere, but this can obviously be adjusted depending on the Framework. The Tier of play is relative to what you can play and how many BP you get.
