Arcane Meditation: Warring Kings version vs Aventuria Magic version

Postby Morgoth » Tue Sep 10, 2019 6:11 am

So, both Warring Kingdoms and Aventuria Magic have Arcane Meditation; they are different. The AM version has a very strict limitation on when it can be used (once every 24 hours).

Which is the correct version?

By the way, all The Warring Kingdoms Special Abilities have been reprinted in Aventuria Magic. Any reason for this decision, as it kind of takes away from having spent money/bought Warring Kingdoms. Hopefully this won't be repeated with other books.

This is done on purpose. If a rule is needed in a particular product and not already in almanac or core rules, it will be reprinted in that product. So if an adventure has the villain cast a specific spell that is in aventurian magic 1, it will be reprinted in that adventure so you don’t have to buy AM1.
There are some exceptions like “iron flames”, a high level adventure that explicitly requires AM1, AM2, AM3 and AG1.

there are rules in the regional books, because you shouldnt need to buy the rule books aside from the core rules and the almanac to play a typical character from that region. thats why rules are in "warring kingdoms" AND in "aventurian magic"

Thank you for answering (finally!) To clarify, the AM version states that once Arcane Meditation is used the caster cannot recover any LE or AE for 24 hours, not that the ability cannot be used for 24 hours. Furthermore the WK version states the caster loses another 1d3 LPs after using Arcane Meditation, while in AM the caster loses 1d LPs

Now this is a pretty big change; the WK version was a very good SA; the AM with the 24 hour part revision nerfs the ability quite a bit. On the other hand I do kind of like the limitation the revision makes, as otherwise there is nothing stopping the caster from using the ability every time he camps, but I wish the penalty was lessened; say the caster regenerates only half the LPs & AEs upon resting.

However, this does beg the question: Which is the official version? The English AM version or the German AM version (which is the same as the WK version according to Bosper)?

The official Wiki-Version in german is lose d3 LP and no 24 hour limitation. Which is the same in AM1 and Warring Kingdoms in the german rules.

I have no idea where the english AM1 Version is coming from.

Not even the WIP manuscript of AM1 had anything else but D3 and no limit. It must've been a fabrication during translation.
